Xbox brag Phil Spencer affirmed his belief that studio apartment acquisitions are a "natural and able-bodied" part of the games industry in a recent question.

Speaking with IGN, Spencer commented happening his visual modality for Xbox's games portfolio and how acquisitions factor into that programme. He highlighted "family-friendly content" as one area where Xbox still has elbow room to grow, and stressed that Xbox will "stay to grow our low-party capabilities." Naturally, studio acquisitions will constitute a part of that growth.

"Sometimes I see dialogue call at the industry about, 'Well, are acquisitions a good thing OR a bad thing?'" Spencer says. "I saw Sony just announced a couple acquisitions, and saying congrats to those teams thereon," he adds, referring to the word of Returnal developer Housemarque joining PlayStation Studios (and potentially Bluepoint Games likewise, if a promo image from PlayStation Japanese Islands is correct)

"And I understand some of the sentiment from the residential district when acquisitions fall out, but one thing I'll put up out there is that protrusive a new studio – starting any small business, frankly – is a very risky proposition. Starting a television game studio even more so. And if a team actually takes the risk of start a new company, opening a studio, building that over old age, construction prise in that, to say that they shouldn't sell I think is just short-sighted."

Spencer was quick to tally that "it doesn't mean every squad has to end up selling their studio, but delineate the "cycle" of newfangled studios ontogenesis to a point that they keister find success, whether through with an acquisition or independence, As a "born and healthy part of our industry."

This mirrors the posture Xbox has taken since its turning point acquisition of Bethesda last year. Originally this month, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty affirmed that the company "will preserve to calculate for studios that can tot up nifty people, great teams, and great new ideas to our lineup."

Unsurprisingly, Xbox's acquisition record spawned a few rumors, many an of which were quickly disproven. In September, Bungie shut down rumors that it was joining Microsoft (after splitting from the company in the aboriginal Halo eld). In November, Spencer himself debunked reports of a "elflike to big" Japanese studio joining Xbox, though he has previously spoken involvement in improving Xbox's presence in Japan and delivery more Japanese games to the platform.

In the same audience, Spencer said that Halo Infinite won't make or break the Halo franchise , which "will be here 10 years from now."
